Kanyashree Prakalpa: The West Bengal Government has announced the removal of the annual family income ceiling in the eligibility criteria for being beneficiary under the United Nations award-winning KanyaSri Raghal Yojana. More girls will be able to pursue their dreams with government support. At present, the girls having more than Rs.12 crores of families having annual family income were not entitled to the benefits of the scheme. The state government is planning to set up “Kanyashree University” under the scheme for girls soon.
Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana was introduced by the West Bengal Government, Women’s Development and Social Welfare Department. Due to the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana, the United Nations has given West Bengal the first place for public service. The main objective of “Kanyashree Prakalpa” is to improve the condition of girl child in the state by encouraging school education of all the girls and preventing her early marriage. What is Kanyashree Prakalpa?
Kanyashree Prakalpa is an initiative taken by the Government of West Bengal to improve the life and the status of girls by helping economically backward families with cash so that families do not arrange the marriage of their girl-child before eighteen years because of economic compulsions. It has been given international recognition by the United Kingdom’s Department of International Development and the UNICEF.
The scheme has two components-Annual scholarship of Rs 500 and a one-time grant of Rs. 25,000. The annual scholarship is for unmarried girls aged 13-18 years, who are enrolled in class VII-XII in recognized regular or equivalent open schools or vocational/technical training courses.
Both the benefits under the scheme are granted to girls, who belong to families with annual family income not more than Rs 1.2 lakh.
The bar of family income is not applicable to the girls who lost both parents; who are physically challenged (40percent disabled) or are inmates of JJ Home. KanyashreePrakalpa has been designed to ensure that girls stay in school and delay their marriages till at least they are 18 years in age. Kanyashree’s strategy is simple.

Purpose of Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana
This is a conditional cash transfer scheme aimed at encouraging school education of the adolescent girls and delaying their marriage till 18 years of age and improving the girl’s condition and welfare. It was by Mamta Banerjee in the West Bengal Government (Women’s Development and Social Welfare Department) in October 2013. Its aim was to include educational achievement of girls, prevent child marriage and financial inclusion.
Purpose: Improve the life and condition of teenage girls in the state. Provide financial assistance to girls of deprived families for higher studies (now it will cover every girl from the state). Prevent child marriage. Better results in the context of their health (especially the prevention of infant and maternal mortality). Contributions towards the empowerment of girls in the state. Bring an incredible benefit to a completely larger society.
Targeted beneficiaries: Children of all children aged 13 to 1 year in the state. Girls regularly participate in institutes for education or vocational or sports training. Girls of registered childcare institutions registered under the Juvenile Justice Act (JJ), 2000 within the age of 18-19 years.
Components of the plan
An annual scholarship of Rs 500: It is recognized for regular or equivalent open school or equivalent business or technical training course for unmarried girls of 13-18 years enrolled in Class VIII-XII class.
One time grant of 25,000 rupees: At the time of application for girls at the time of 18 years of age, enrolling or pursuing nominated or vocational or technical training or sports activity in regularly recognized or open schools and colleges or registered under JJ Act Is the prisoner of the house.
Progress: Nearly 50 lakh girls from the state have been benefited from the scheme and removing the roof will help three lakhs more girls annually. Since its launch, she has helped reduce the drop out of girls from girls by about 11.5%. The plan was awarded the United Nations Public Service Award in June 2017.
The purpose of the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana is as follows:
- To provide financial helps to the girls from disadvantaged families to pursue higher studies.

- To prevent child marriage in West Bengal by increasing the enrolment of girls in secondary education or vocational or sports training.

There are two benefit components in Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana.
Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme Scholarship
Annual scholarship for girls will be paid annually for girls aged 13 to 18 years for each year. It helps in ensuring that girls stay in school and unmarried at that time.
Under the Kanyashree Pralay Yojana, girls will be given a grant once between the ages of 18 and 19 years.

Eligibility criteria for annual scholarship (level 1)
Below are the eligibility criteria for getting annual scholarship under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana:
Students between 13 to 17 years of age (before 18 years of age) are eligible to receive annual scholarship
The applicant should be unmarried
Nominated students in class VIII-XII class in government are eligible for this scholarship recognized for regular or equivalent school or equivalent professional or any other technical training course.
Student family income should be less than or equal to Rs. 120000 per year are eligible to apply only
If any of the following conditions is true then the family income will be different:
Kanyashree Prakalpa Applicant girl is physically handicapped
Student’s parents (both father and mother) are dead
The applicant’s daughter/ward is already a scholarship recipient and is applying for renewal of benefits
Eligibility Criteria for One Time Grant (K2 Level)
Under the Kanyashree Rulal Yojna, eligibility criteria for the rant are listed below:
The girl between 18 and 19 years of age (after 18 years and 19 years turn) can apply for it.
At the age of 18, the girl was unmarried only the character
If a girl is enrolled and regularly participates in higher education or training institute, she is eligible for one time grant
To apply for this students, the family income should be less than or equal to Rs. 120000 per year are eligible to apply only
As stated above, the status of family income can vary for physically challenged girls and dead parents.

Kanyashree Pralal Scheme Application Process
Eligible students can apply for Kanyashree Pralay Yojana by following method. Before applying for Kanyashree Pralay, eligible girls should open a bank account in their name.
- Step 1: Eligible girl student will have to submit application related educational institution.
- Step 2: Fill in the following details to get scholarship personal details, Address, Academic institution address
- Step 3: The application should be signed and signed by the parent. Submit the application with documents to the relevant academic institution.
- Step 4: Confirm the details furnished by the principal of the department and will conduct the official postage stamp.
- Step 5: Get the acknowledgment slip and keep application number for future reference.
- Step 6: After successful submission of application form, all the details will be uploaded on the official webpage of Kanyashree.

Payment Type of kanyashree prakalpa
Through fund transfer through bank student, beneficiaries will be paid annual scholarship or one time grant. Once the application is approved, the applicant will be assisted by the banking partner for opening and operating bank accounts. According to the second schedule of Reserve Bank of India Act, bank account can be opened in any scheduled bank.

Applications of renewal scholarship applications will be similar to new applications. All documents except income certificate will be made available for renewal. All documents and applications directed above will be examined and verified.
Kanyaashree ki 3 Phalalpa
On July 28, 2017, Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal announced that there are currently 3 girls of Kanyashree for girls studying in any university. 3 of these scholarships will help the girl students pursue their higher studies.
Eligibility Criteria for K3
Students registered for K2 scheme are eligible for only 3 schemes.
In order to implement Kanyashree’s 3 plans, students have to pass a bachelor’s degree with at least 45% marks and have to enter the postgraduate course under any university.
There is no maximum age limit for applying for Kanyashree’s 3 lamps.
K3 – Scholarship amount
For scholarships, 3 scholarships for students are Rs. 2500 per month and Rs. 2000 per month.
