Introduction:

The most important decision taken by our present Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi was changing the existing Indira Awas Yojana to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in June 2015 that has changed the entire picture of India. This ambitious project of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has put India in a prestigious position on the global map.

As Pradhan Mantri quoted while launching this scheme in revamped way “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is not just about merely building houses. This is a significant step in making the dreams of the poor come true”, it truly is. It is about providing houses to those people who wouldn’t have even dreamt of having houses in their wildest dream.

It was our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision that has got shape in the form of this unique scheme, which is Housing for All by 2022 when the Nation completes 75 years of its Independence. In order to reach the benefits of PMAY, the Central Government has launched a holistic mission “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Housing for All (Urban)”. The mission is  to address the housing requirement of urban poor that includes slum dwellers through following the below mentioned program verticals:

  1. Providing subsidy to the people who are beneficiaries for individual house construction/enhancement.
  2. Affordable housing development in partnership with private sector and public sector lending companies and organizations.
  3. Slum rehabilitation by using the existing land that is available with the help of private property developers.
  4. Offering affordable houses to people who are in BPL level through Credit Linked Subsidy.

Conclusion:

Not only houses’ the benefits of PMAY are multiple, because it involves providing the basic right like toilet, unlimited water and 24 hours electricity. Untill today these were only available to the middle class and upper class people but with the help of this scheme now everybody will have a home.
